What does 1H indole mean?
1H-indole is an indole and a polycyclic heteroarene. It has a role as an Escherichia coli metabolite. It is a tautomer of a 3H-indole. ChEBI. Indole is a metabolite found in or produced by Escherichia coli (strain K12, MG1655).
What is indole used for?
Indole-based compounds, either naturally occurring or synthetic, have their usefulness as therapeutic agents in the treatment of cancer, bacterial and viral infections, emesis, migraine, and hypertension.
What does it mean when indole is positive?
Bacteria that have the enzyme tryptophanase, can convert the amino acid, tryptophane to indole. Indole reacts with added Kovac’s reagent to form rosindole dye which is red in color (indole +). Escherichia coli is indole positive. The organism pictured second from left is E. coli and is indole positive.
